Description
The Townsend family of rural Mississippi has had its share of secrets. We were first introduced to them in the two-act drama, The Rooting Place, when a secret kept Effie Raye estranged for 30 years. The birth of her grandson Oba finally compels her to return in 1985 with him and his mother. That trip home uncovered as many as 10 shocking secrets, some generations in the making.
Now, in The Uprooting, a sequel to The Rooting Place, Oba returns 20 years later with his own secrets. He arrives from an exchange at a university in California, and surprises his family by not only bringing a mysterious young woman, but her mother as well. He is excited to reveal this secret, but he has been concealing the awful bullying he experienced at the hands of his country cousins every time he came to visit. Still, it is an even darker secret between him and his cousin Jeffrey Lee that Oba must now counter or be consumed by it.
